Thinking about a SEVEN

For the longest time, I have wanted to get a seven. After driving friend's ariel atom and superformance S1 roadster, my ducati 1098S holds no appeal to me anymore. I have decided to take the plunge and put down a deposit on a seven. I am considering to get a roadsport SV170. I was wondering if there was anyone in the bay area who has a seven and wouldn't mind showing me their car as I am trying to decide between the options :).

I'd recommend Duratec power.

These engines are still in production, lighter, highly tunable and well supported in Sevens applications. Cheaper in a stock form to buy.

I have an SVT powered Seven that I built before Duratecs were available. It works fine with plenty of power but the engine is no longer in production. Changing from a Zetec to a Duratec is doable but you have to replace some of the more expensive bits. Headers and bell housing come to mind. I think better to start with the Duratec.

If you have your heart set on the SVT or SV170 version it won't be a mistake but could be limiting in the future.

There are several Seven owners in the Bay Area.

Are we talking about an SVT or a Duratec 2.0 in 170 hp trim? IIRC, the new Caterham spec includes a Roadsport 170 SV, powered by a lightly massaged 2.0 Duratec. It would be hard to imagine finding a decent SVT motor 5 years after the end of production (I do have a brand new in box complete SVT cylinder head in the basement that I would gladly part with in exchange for a small Carribbean island...)

I've not looked at Caterham USA's website in some time so may not know what the heck I'm talking about.

I believe they called the SVT Engined Focus the SV170 in the UK which may be the cause of my confusion. Or it could be CRS.
