In preparation for the rapidly approaching Assault on Mt Palomar, I finally realized that I need some outside help to get a few things knocked off on the Seven. So I've taken the car over to the beauty salon, AKA the Flying Dutchman Company (http://www.flyingdutchmancompany.com/). The Flying Dutchman is a lad named Jake Krotje. Besides metal shaping, he's into skydiving. Hence the name.

I fab'd a transmission cover last summer at home, and while it was passable, I wasn't satisfied and wanted to refine the basic design. A softer shape would provide some much needed additional knee and leg room in addition to being a finished piece. I went over to see Jake this afternoon to measure for new wing mounting hardware and also (to my surprise) do a test fitting of the new trans cover. Here's a look at the work in progress:

The test fitting went well beyond my hopes as the new cover provides over 1.5 inches additional clearance between my left leg and the steering wheel. Awesome! :)

Besides the transmission cover we're working on a few other bits for the June drive as well.

Looking good. My transmission tunnel is wider than the original s2 tunnel and space is limited.

Are you planning to rivet it in place? My car used dzus fasteners which are really nice for ease of access to that area.

Since this doesn't require frequent access we're using floating nutplates and button head cap screws.
