Hello all,
I finally succumbed to temptation and bought a 2.3l Duratec crate motor for LOCOST 7.
The plan is to gather the bits needed for the swap and try to do it over the winter. While I'm at it, I plan to fix a few other little things that have been bugging me as well.....
Question:
Who's got the bellhousing/clutch stuff to adapt the Duratec to my Type 9 trans over here?
Or should I just go straight to the UK guys?

Jon Stokes, Chris Carter and Scot E have them on their 7s. One of them may be able to help. You could also ask William @ Autocourse since he's the guy that has been building Duratec 7s in the USA.
With your featherweight car I expect that you will be blowing by me about next April. Smart decision on goin with the Duratec!! 8)

I've been thinking about getting one as well. May I ask what you paid for it?

Magnus,
I paid $550 + $147 shipping
It was too cheap to pass up....

Cosworth in Torrance can sell you a clutch, and perhaps the flywheel. I don't know of any stateside bellhousing. The cost of shipping isn't that great for a part like that, unless you want to hand carry it...
The crate motor comes w/ what components attached? Mine was a "long block" which meant basically the block, internals, head and water pump. Everything else was sourced in the Uk.
Ya gotta dig the price. Blow a motor? So what? A tank of gas will cost you more!

Here's the link to the engine I bought.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=7997502281&
Pictures appear to be of a complete engine, flywheel forward, minus wiring, starter, and alternator. (normal state for a "crate" engine)
Looks to be a stick shift flywheel... I'll have to see if it will be usable, and how easy it would be to lighten. Lathe and mill time are free.......

For those who asked about where I got my engine, here's another one listed by the same guy.
It's not as complete as the one I bought but it is cheaper.
It would make a good spare for someone...
