It's taking forever for the machine shop to get my zetec back to JBA, but it should be back in the next few days! Anyone have a map for the stock ECU for the following setup that they could start with for a dyno tune?
98 zetec 2.0 l
oversize valves with port and polishing of heads
10.1:1 compression
mid-range cam
jenvey intake with 45 mm throttle bodies, 90 mm air horns
The wiring harness doesn't have an OBDII port so I think they have to take the ecu out each dyno run to reflash it. Anyone know of a file that would be a good place to start?

Ehm.
The stock Zetec ECU runs of mass airflow (MAF) to determine engine load (together with RPM). Jenveys usually run's off throttle position (TPS) or, if you are feelinig bizarre, manifold air pressure (MAP).
I don't think that you can remap a stock ECU to use TPS or MAP, and that an aftermarket ECU will be necessary.

Some of us run Pectel T2 or T6, from Pectel. These will do the job, but are getting a bit old. Especially the mapping software.
There are numerous maps floating around for naturally aspirated Zetecs that you can start with.

I don't know much about engine management systems. Is the Motec or other units something that you add to the existing harness?

Another popular one, which seems to have greater functionality than the MBE, but at a lower price than the MoTeC, is the Emerald K3 (http://www.emeraldm3d.com/em_k3.html). I have no first-hand experience, but those who do seem to like it.
I have an MBE, but haven't had the opportunity to monkey with it - yet...

It is a replacement unit that you can map (often while the engine runs) using a regular laptop connected to the ECU.
You will need to modify your harness to fit a connector for the new ECU, but that should not be too much work.

Justin - This (http://members.aol.com/DVAndrews/ems.htm) should keep you busy for a little while. :) It is a little long, but a fairly straightforward explanation of the role of an ECU. Found at http://www.seven-ecstasy.co.uk/html/seven_resources.html - gotta give credit where it's due.
I know next to nothing about this ECU stuff myself, and the article above helped me to get at least a basic understanding of it all.

Woody at MSI is an Emerald dealer and should be able to set you up with a basic map.
He may be able to point you to where you can get a wiring harness too.
I built my own harness for a T6, I believe the Emerald is easier but have no experience with them.
Slomove may know.
The trick was getting the proper connector housings, crimp on connectors and a good crimping tool. The 'open barrel' connectors when used with the proper tool crimp on much better than the closed barrel type.

I have the Emerald. Great little unit with a lot of features including self mapping, and the ability to store and switch between 3 maps on the fly. They also are setting it up for traction control which will reportedly be out soon.

I don't know if they do one-off harnesses as well, but you may ask them. They have done several of Caterham/T2 harnesses for Caterham USA. They may also T2s in stock.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm hoping I won't need a whole new harness/ECU for this. With every new expense on this "rebuild," I'm getting awfully close to what it would have cost to put a nicely built duratec in it!

Don't forget that you can reuse the ECU (and probably most of the harness) for all future engines you build.
I am going Duratec and will be able to keep my harness (with minor modifications) and Pectel T6 ECU. (Unless I buy a Life Racing F88, but that is another story.)
A good ECU is really a good initial investment since it opens up your engine for so many future developments.

If no one here knows the answer, then you might want to post on WSCC (http://boardroom.wscc.co.uk/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi) (or I can do it for you). A lot of folks run Zetecs in their Westfields, so I'm sure someone there can help.
