    Post Help with tracing Fuel vent hose

    I'm trying to figure out how to hook up my fuel emissions systems on my Caterham SV with SVT engine. The builder claims to have hooked everything up but the car's computer is thowing 2 errors for the emission system. One of them is related to the fuel vent hose from the fuel tank.

    I think I have traced the correct hose, and all I need do is plug in a length of hose to the charcoal fuel canister. Can folks confirm that I traced the correct hose? I have posted the picts on flickr.com

    When I had my stock Zetec using the stock PCM (ECU) it gave several codes because the systems no longer existed. All of the cars with this setup were like that (TADTS). I looked into trying to get rid of the codes and found it hopeless.

    I don't know of anyone that ever got them all sorted out.

    Here in California it's not an issue if you get registered under the Specially Constructed Vehicle exemption.

    So bottom line is I don't know your answer and I'm not sure anyone out here will.

    Do you need the ECU (PCM) to be clear of codes for some reason?

    I'm in Massachusetts. I figured posting here would be helpful since we follow California emission standards. I currently have 3 codes coming up on the OBDII port of my car's SVT engine. I think I can pass inspection with one code. So currently the codes are for fuel tank pressure, Fuel vapor recovery and throttle position sensor has another error.

    Never had to deal with this kind of crap but there is surely a way to dupe the ECU into thinking the sensors are reading right. That said, since I have not had to deal with it I am not sure how much research this will take ;-)

    I don't have a solution , there is no solution as doug said in previous post , the sensors are not installed in caterham tank. so the evap system will never work properly. if you want a long explanation PM me for my phone # and I'll try to explain my take on the whole situation. glenn

    As Gert says someone with enough motivation should be able to find a solution. After spending some time with the Ford factory manual I gave up on it.

    It needs more research than I could do for something that didn't matter to us.

    Maybe if you had access to a Focus SVT, your engine has the factoy wiring harness and you can find all the input signals you could work out a way to fool it.

    I do remember that mine gave the same error codes when I had the stock Ford computer.

    I just gave a quick glance over of the link to SEMA's 50-state registration pages provided by MoPho here, and it seems to me to indicate that your car would be categorized by Massachusetts as a "replica vehicle", and as such should be exempt from emissions "...until April 30, 2012, at which time they will be tested based on the model year of the engine installed." Is it possible that your car has been mis-categorized?

    I'm with you ,why bother if it's not necessary , our car is registered as a collector car in ohio ( emission exempt ) car runs great !! only codes ( 3 ) are evap/fuel tank related & 1 is for rear 02 sensor which also is missing ,( side exit exhaust ) I also bought & studied factory manual. thats when I discovered missing tank sensors . unfortunately every state is different .

    Late to the party.

    The fuel vent line should be plugged into a fuel evap canister, which I think contains active Carbon. The evap canister on my 2002 SV was installed in the front between the right top A-arm mounts. The canister also had two (or three) wires going into it from the ECU, probably to operate a solenoid.

    You will always see error codes on a stock ECU since there is no tank pressure sensor installed in the Caterham. If you plug an OBD-II diagnostic tool into your ECU and post the error messages here, I can try to interpret them for you.

    The codes can be read OK, they tell you something is not working because on the Caterham it's not there.

    The trick is to fool the computer to think that it is there.

    So find the correct connector and put in the correct signal. Sounds easy when you say it fast.

    Sorry to be so late to this thread, but my car has displayed the same fault codes since birth:
    P0720 Output shaft speed sensor circuit
    P0722 Output shaft speed sensor circuit no signal
    P1000 OBD system readiness test not complete
    P1451 Evaporative emissions system vent control circuit
    P1474 Fan control primary circuit
    P1479 High fan control primary circuit
    Both Jeff Sloan at British Auto Specialist and Cody at Caterham USA indicated that these were normal and the result of items missing that were in the original SVT Focus application.
