    Question Nor-Cal Sevens picnic!

After driving today, Tom and I were discussing the sometimes spotty contact between 7 owners and enthusiasts in the area. So we thought it might be good to have a picnic. So I'm thinking, depending on whether it rains or not, maybe Saturday, October 13th or 20th I'll go down to Vasona Lake Park in Los Gatos ($6 for parking, but very safe!) with some basic picnic fare and hang out at one of the first come, first served picnic tables by the creek. Any with a Caterham, Birkin, WCM, CMC, or whatever are welcome to join me, and any who don't have one would be welcome as well.

Please register interest here, or PM, or whatever.
Date now set for Saturday, October 20th!

Time: 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. PDT (approximate; I'll be there earlier to secure a picnic spot)

Location: Boat Center picnic area - between the bridge and the boat ramp; Vasona park map

    edit: Why Vasona?
    • No. 1 reason: close to twisty roads!
    • has a cool 100+ year-old train and a 100+ year-old carousel
    • it's large, with lots of parking
    • has a creek and a lake, with paddle boats, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards for hire, as well as fishing if that's your thing
    • a large playground area for kids (two actually, counting the one in the adjacent Oak Meadow park), if you have kids
    • lots of BBQ facilities/picnic tables
    • burgers/hot dogs/popsicles/etc. available for purchase if you don't feel like doing that stuff yourself, and not crazy expensive
    • freeway close!
    • a whole bunch of trails throughout (and beyond) for hiking and/or biking

Gotta be one of the better parks in the area.

I am interested. Of course since I have a seven, I cannot bring both of my kids.

    Hi Sean,

Great idea! I will not be able to attend the 13th...(I'll be in the UK - hoping to get to visit the Caterham showroom). Hopefully this will be the first of many.

I'm glad you mentioned the Caterham showroom, Tom - which is about 4,000 miles from here.
There are two reasons behind this picnic: One is to create an opportunity to put faces and metal to the online names and cars, and the other is to provide the closest thing we can to a Caterham (and other makes) showroom for any considering a Seven. Would be nice if people intending to make it would please register their interest here in advance rather than just showing up so I can get an idea of how much picnic stuff I should bring.

I intend to bring charcoal, a cooler w/ice, cooking and eating utensils, napkins, salt & pepper, condiments, water, soda, etc. for all, as well as some kind of BBQ-worthy meat for my own consumption. Hope to see you there.

Well, with two out of four so far able to make the 20th but not the 13th, we may as well shoot for the 20th. I'll amend the first post.

Sean, I'd like to come but I have to be back in the San Mateo area by 2.30 pm to coach my kid's soccer team. What time do you plan to arrive?

I plan to get there before 10:00 a.m. to secure one of the better first come first served picnic areas. I anticipate grilling sometime between 11:00 and noon, so we'll probably be finishing up before 2:00, if not earlier. I look forward to seeing you again, if you can make it.

Sounds good. Put me down as "tentatively in". Will plan to bring my chief mechanic (aged 9).

Cool (though I thought Doug was a bit older than that! ).
I may have a few unused train/carousel tickets left over from past visits. If so, I'll bring 'em.

I'd like to come along, if the insiders don't mind a tourist/muggle. I don't have a qualifying car (yet) but I'm good for a food and bev contribution!

Don't mind you coming along at all - that's half the point of this. I remember well when considering a 7 how useful it would be if I could just go look at one, sit in it, kick a tire, etc.

Great, then count me in. I'll keep the tire-kicking figurative.

Count me as a tentative yes. Thanks, I need an outing and so does the car.

It's just a few days away now, so I updated the first post with a list of potential attendees as committed or tentative. To those of you who are still tentative, I think you ought to be committed.
I hope to see you all on Saturday.

You can move me from tentative to committed. I am blowing the dust off, vacuuming the rocks out of the cockpit, and fixing a couple of broken bits in anticipation. It won't be beautiful (needs a full refresh after the calendar clears up some) but it will be loud.

Looks like I'll (Geoff) be able to join, but will have to take off before lunch.
