    Default Hey Doug!

A little warm out there? Smoky?

Hope y'all are OK and well clear of the immediate threat. Been there, done that, it sucks.

No problems for us. Barely even smelled the smoke. The fire was a bit to the West with the wind blowing it away from where we are.

The closest it came was where they set backfires.

If the wind changes it could be back but that is not expected to happen.

    Thanks for asking.

Our house is in the Eastern side of the green section just west of where it's marked 'Rancho Sierra Vista, Satwiwa'

Nice area. My brother used to rent a converted wine cellar at a house on Lake Sherwood (with its own dock), and worked at Sherwood Country Club. He used to boast that he could, in theory, drive, bike, walk, sail, canoe, or swim to work.

Glad to hear all is well at Casa de Liedblad.

The wind did shift and the fire came back at us. Not a real worry as they started backfires in the brush areas near me last night so the fire that came back our way was stopped.

Yesterday no smoke today lots of it.

Hey Doug, I hope it doesn't get any nearer you.
I was just looking at that map you linked to. Can't be fun being that near the fire.

Closest was about 1/2 mile or so. That was Friday about Noon.

The fire is spectacular to watch as long as it's just the brush. In 10 months it will be green again and not long after that you won't be able to tell there was a fire. It burned off like this a few years ago and I was surprised how fast it recovers.

I can't figure out how to post these in order, by photo number these are:

#1 was about 10 AM Friday, # 2 about 15 minutes later. 3. another view about 11:30. 4. Backfire area from the night before, 5 moved South of us to the East.

Thursday the fire went from the 101 West of us to PCH. Overnight wind shifted and it came back up the canyons.

What you can't really see is that fire crews had burned off the brush between us and the route the fire was taking back so we weren't really in any problem.

The nearest fire is at least 1/2 mile from my house and probably more.

    Thanks for asking

    Doug

Glad to hear that you're safe, although 1/2 mile is pretty close in my book, depending on topography of course.

Please remember that if it ever does get close enough, insurance buys you another house. Understandably, people are quite reluctant to leave their homes.

The map on the link was updated, we are still in the green area but just, it look closer than it actually was. Most was at least a mile away with lots of firefighters and the intentionally burned off areas between us and the fire.

Edited to show how close it got.
