    Default New 7

I just purchased a 7 (Birkin) and was trying to find someone in the local area who might evaluate the car- Its a Duratec powered car- wanted to get opinion on whether the car is performing at the expected level.CAM00043.jpg

There are several of us around who have some Duratec knowledge. I'm not entirely sure what 'performing at the expected level' means. Are there obvious problems? More information would be helpful.

Identify what year the car was built / registered, the maker of the ECU and any model number. Also, identify whether it's a single throttle body or multi, coils on plugs or coil 'distributor' mounted at the rear of the engine. It would be helpful if you post pics of the engine compartment as well.

If it's mapping you're interested to know about Magnus, or fearless leader, is the man.

    Cheers!

I'd be happy to have a look at the car from a mechanical / mapping point of view.

If you really want the whole picture, we will need to set it up on a dyno. Since it's been a while, this maybe a good opportunity to have another dyno day.

He's planning on being at my house this Saturday around 10 AM for a look over. I have a car lift.

Magnus, I know enough to blow up a Duratec.

Gert - A Birkin owners input would be welcome.

We can have a BBQ lunch. Bring your young brides and kiddies.

    Anyone else is welcome too.

Be advised I have not cleared this with Nancy so subject to change.

    I'll try to be there.

Do we know which ECU he has? Just so that I can bring the right equipment.

Wasnt able to finish response-Doug THANK YOU for setting this up- I have included a shot of the engine- Car was built in 2014- completed sb100 in august- Haltech Sport 1000- I have laptp , cord and software- Was looking for driving impressions since I have nothing to compare it to. Also a good inspection to determine build quality and potential concerns- it does have the transmission leak which is pretty dissapointing.

Edit: I'd be willing to bet that the throttle bodies are SBD's (nee Jenveys), based on the throttle cable arrangement. The have their initials cast into them. It can be seen w/ the air filter off. The engine harness looks like it might be theirs as well.

I'd be willing to bet that the ECU is MBE's. It's probably attached to the interior of the car on the firewall. Edit: Oops - you already mentioned the Haltech. Could be VVT then. The harness is hooked up to the sensor. I say could be because mine is too, but I don't have that particular head - mine's pre VVT.

    ECU info here.

Lastly, a Google of 'Massive Duratec' (from the word on the cam cover) yielded this. Maybe you've got one of their ported n flowed cylinder heads. Interesting - I've not heard of 'em before.

    I may head over Doug.

Yes, this is common, but should be easy to fix ... once you have the engine out. :-(

    Where is the transmission leak?

From Bellhousing area or by the driveshaft.

Tailstock seals are easy and I have one. Probably have the front seal too but wasn't planning on a engine R&R this weekend. Some other.

It could also leak from the speedo pickup. Easy to fix as well.

Just want to thank Doug, Magnus, and Gert for the time they put into looking over my car today- looks like I still have some issues and we did verify that the trans leak will require an engine removal- We were able to correct some dificiencies and get the car running a lot better- Truly a day well spent- And thanks to Nancy for preparing a great lunch!
    - really appreciated the hospitality.

I checked the speedo pickup and that ain't it. Wish it was. Clearly coming out the rear seal and there was a fair amount from the bell housing / transmission interface.
