Default Magnus is moving to Portland - Free stuff!

    All,

It is with a little bit of a sadness that I now shall part ways with California and move to Portland.

As you know I've been doing R&D for Jaguar Land Rover's PDX Lab for more than a year. Since my team up there is rapidly expanding, JLR offered me a relocation package that I signed yesterday. The move will be at the end of July. Although it rains a lot up there during the winter, it is somewhat balanced out by the fact that the track is 15 minutes outside town.

I would be happy to continue to administer the CCC site, although if somebody else wants to take over the responsibility I'd be happy to make that happen too.

Since I'll be moving, I'm giving away a bunch of stuff that I will not be needing:

    1. New and complete set of Ford Duratec 2.3L (Ranger) pistons and con rods. Stored in ziplocks
    2. New head and cams for the same engine. Valves and buckets are missing, although springs are included.
    3. Shitty hydraulic press. Used once: http://www.harborfreight.com/6-ton-a...ress-1666.html
    4. One Duratec 2.3L exhaust manifold - fabricated by none other than Mr W. Sours. Surface rust, but never used.
    5. One engine stand.
    6. One new set of Ross custom fabricated Duratec 2.3L race pistons. See spec sheet in pics. These were $800, so I'd like $250 for them.

I also have Gert's massive shop muffler to appease those pesky neighbors when you are testing your engine. If he doesn't want it back, it will be up for grabs.

…..or you could always change it to WCCC - West Coast Caterham Club, which is more in line with what it is anyway

The funny thing is my wife goes " What is that car a Morgan ? " and I said "No that's a Caterham but there is a Morgan driving it " -delise

Even being in the southern most portion, I would second the WCCC.

What are the chances we can sneek in a dyno session before the move?

I probably will not have time for a dyno day before I leave since my weekends will be spent packing.

However, Once I've settled in I'd be happy to fly down for a weekend to do some mapping.

Ohh nooo, cant believe ur going... even though u hinted @ the idea on our last drive.

i lived up in Vancouver, bc for 25+ years & although the rain can be depressing at times, the scenery in the pacific northwest is beautiful, green & peaceful.

Thanks for all the help you've generously provided & giving me my first hit on ur caterham. Ive been hooked since.

    good luck on ur move!

    Ok.

Since there are no takers on the stuff, they will go on craigslist.

Gert will get his shop muffler back. Somehow.

I sent you an email about the shitty hydraulic press the other day.

I won't fight over it but if the other guy doesn't want it and it sort of works I am interested.

I also just spoke to Gert. He does want his big muffler back. He'll explain later.

He is still the big trip.

Just the duratec head and engine stand would be awesome... and maybe the exhaust manifold, thanks!

Magnus, let me be the first to welcome you to the best end of the West Coast! Having made the move from Southern CA to the PNW 20 years ago, I have no regrets. Beautiful scenery, better tax situation, and the housing prices aren't quite as nuts. Sure, there is this thing called Winter that impacts driving a se7en, but it also creates a great excuse to do upgrades.

John - Where are you located?

We need to start a local Caterham infestation.

I'm about 30 miles east of downtown Seattle, which makes it a little under 200 miles to Portland. So not day trip close, but there are drives mid way between the two cities that fit that criteria. I'm aware of a few Caterhams in the greater Seattle area, but not sure about Portland. Definitely worth exploring.

    I'll PM my contact info.

Issaquah is a little closer at under 20 miles from downtown. I'm in Duvall which is northeast of Issaquah -- and closer to better roads. I'd love to get a road trip going in the PNW again. We had a great time on Gert's PNW 2007 tour, and I did Monterey to Seattle twice with Ed Hudson. Lot of great roads once you get away from civilization.

Magnus, I think we have a mission...

Welcome to the Northwet. There is a track CSR in Salem as well as a new Caterham (280?) in the build process across the river from you in Vancouver, WA. Best guess is about 10 Caterhams in the Seattle metro area. Most of them seem to pass though Beachman Racing at some point.
Still in the massive grin stage. Damn bugs
